Study Shows Increase In Smoking Among Pregnant Women

Even though we know that when pregnant women smoke it can cause low birth weight and other complications, there was an 18-percent increase in the number of expectant moms who smoked in Michigan from 2008 to 2014.

That’s a finding of the Michigan League for Public Policy’s Right Start annual report on maternal and child health. Alicia Guevara-Warren is project director.

Guevara-Warren says the report does show a 30-percent decrease in births to teen moms.
