Whitmer Signs Sales Tax Bills; Considers Gambling Bills

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed a series of bills that will expand the number of online retailers that will need to collect Michigan sales tax.

The bills extend the six percent levy to third-party retailers who sell items directly on such websites as Amazon, Wayfair and Overstock, even if those third parties don’t have a physical presence in the state. 


The legislature has sent to the governor a series of bills that would legalize online gaming and sports betting.

Casinos that are licensed in Michigan could provide online gambling. They could also set up on-site viewing rooms, where gambling on live sporting events could take place.
