Whitmer Suggests State Park in Flint

Could Michigan’s next state park be located in downtown Flint?

Governor Gretchen Whitmer floated the idea at a recent appearance in the Vehicle City.

The park could be built on the bank of the Flint River, on property once occupied by the historic Chevrolet Plant Number Four.

That was the site of the famous sit-down strike by members of the United Auto Workers Union in 1937, which resulted in General Motors’ recognition of the union.

The now-vacant site with potential environmental problems was recently purchased by the City of Flint.
