Stimulus payments can take many forms

Last month’s economic stimulus funds are already beginning to pad consumer bank accounts. For those who are registered with the IRS for direct deposit, you probably saw your payment before New Year’s Day.

John Sullivan, former Houghton City Councilman, received a MetaBank Visa Card earlier this week. The front is a distinctive pattern of white stars and a blue background as seen on the American flag. Sullivan said he was worried that the card was a scam and inquired at a couple of different banks, even tried an ATM unsuccessfully.

The card will not work until it is activated. That can be done online or over the phone. If you call the number as instructed, they will ask you for your social security number and address. Once verified, the card is used like a preloaded gift card. There are no monthly limits or expiration dates. More information can be found here.
