Stolen Car Recovered In Bessemer, Meth Lab Found In House With Children

Two Bessemer people are in custody for allegedly stealing a car and operating a meth lab.

The Michigan State Police say Troopers from the Wakefield Post received a tip about a stolen vehicle out of Arizona on Tuesday.

Police located the vehicle and recovered it at a residence in the city of Bessemer.

34-year-old Matthew Lander and a 28-year-old Lisa Olivas, who live at the residence were arrested for Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile.

That charge is a felony which carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.

Both suspects will have preliminary exams in Gogebic County District Court on September 9th.

While police were in the process of arresting these two individuals, a meth lab was found in the home, which was also occupied by several children.

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team responded and removed the meth lab and the hazardous materials from the property.

Additional charges are expected against the two suspects as well as other people in relation to the meth lab as the investigation continues.
