Study Shows Some Charities Only Receive About 1/3 of Money Donated

A new report says only 33 percent of every dollar raised by professional fundraisers hired by charities, actually reaches the charity.

The fourth annual Professional Fundraising Charitable Solicitation Report comes from the Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette says the report identifies the total amount raised by charities as well as money paid to professional fundraisers who are hired by a charity.

Schuette says 67 cents of every dollar raised actually goes to pay for the professional fundraising services.

The figures are similar to the 2014 report, when just 30 percent of every dollar went to the charity.

Schuette says the small amount going to the charities is a concern, and it’s something donors should be aware of.
