Tigers Blow Another Lead – Saturday Sports Wrap

MLB – Tigers Squander Another Lead
The Detroit Tigers blew another big lead, and lost to the Baltimore Orioles 8-7 last night. Detroit led 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, powered by home runs from J.D. Martinez, James McCann and Jefry Marte. The O’s started their comeback with one in the bottom of the fourth, then drove starter Buck Farmer from the game with four more in the bottom of the fifth. They put the game away with three more off Jose Valdez in the bottom of the sixth. Valdez took the loss in his major league debut.

The Tigers play at Baltimore again tonight. Anibal Sanchez will start against Kevin Gausman. Hear the first pitch at 7:05 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Before the game, the Tigers completed their “reboot” by sending outfielder Yoenis Cespedes to the New York Mets. Detroit received right-handed starters Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa in return. Fulmer was the Mets’ seventh-ranked prospect, and Cessa was listed 16th on the New York prospect list. Both are expected to be assigned to minor league clubs.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 last night. Taylor Jungmann gave up three runs before leaving in the sixth inning, and took the loss.

The Brewers continue that home set against the Cubs tonight. Matt Garza will pitch against Kyle Hendricks.

Yesterday, Milwaukee sent outfielder Gerardo Parra to the Baltimore Orioles. Milwaukee gets minor league starter Zach Davies, who was ranked as the third-best prospect in the Baltimore system. The Brewers also traded reliever Jonathan Broxton to the Saint Louis Cardinals, in exchange for minor league outfielder Malik Collymore. Milwaukee included three-million dollars, to cover a million dollars in salary remaining this season, and the buyout of his 2016 option. And, the Brewers claimed The Brewers right-handed reliever Preston Guilmet from the Dodgers off waivers.

Baraga County Fair This Weekend
The Baraga County Fair continues at the fairgrounds in Pelkie. Competitions include the Mud Bog today at 1:00… the Off-Road Derby tomorrow at 1:00… and the Demolition Derby tomorrow at 5:00. Link to the full fair schedule here.
