Townsend Drive construction gets start date

Dan Weingarten from the Michigan Department of Transportation told Keweenaw Report last week that they were still in the process of finalizing a start date for the US-41 repaving being done on Michigan Tech’s campus. Meetings were taking place between the different contractors working on the project within just the past few days. Following those, Monday, May 3rd was announced.

Eastbound traffic will not be rerouted, but may be shifted onto other lanes. Vehicles heading west on Townsend Drive could be forced onto Cliff Drive instead, which passes through campus near the canal. Houghton City Manager Eric Waara told the council Wednesday night that this is the last major state project for a while. It wraps up in 2022, and then there is a planned period of relative quiet through 2025.
