Warm & Dry Conditions Forecasted For The Copper Country Through The End Of The Year

September 2015 will go into the books as one of the warmest ever on record for the Copper Country.

The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says well above normal temperature during the month resulted in the second hottest September and the areas third driest.

The previous record average high was in 1908 and you have to go back to 1887 for the driest month ever.

Average temperatures last month were seven degrees higher than normal.

The heat didn’t last long however.  After topping at 91 degrees in Pelkie and Ahmeek in mid-September, temperatures had plummeted into the low 20’s in Covington by the end of the month.

Because of the effects of El Nino in the Pacific Ocean, the forecast through the end of the year is continued above normal temperatures and lower precipitation.
