Spring graveside services for John H. Pyykkonen, 77, a resident of Chassell who passed away November 3, 2017, at the Omega House in Houghton, will be held 11 am Friday July 7, 2018 at the Chassell Cemetery with Rev. Soren Schmidt to officiate.

Chassell

John H. Pyykkonen, 77, a resident of Chassell passed away Friday, November 3, 2017, at the Omega House in Houghton.

He was born on November 10, 1939, in Chassell, a son of the late Henry and Aino (Kolehmainen) Pyykkonen.  He was raised in Chassell and was a graduate of the Chassell High School with the class of 1956.  He was very proud to of been a member of the Legends of the Game Chassell High School basketball team that had won back to back state titles and helped set the state record for 59 consecutive wins.

On October 20, 1962, he was united in marriage to the former Paulette M. Koski.  The Couple had resided in Milwaukee and Chassell before moving to make their home in Royal Oak, MI where they raised their five children.

While residing in Royal Oak, John had worked for Oakland Plastics before beginning a career at AZ Shmina where he retired as a Yard Superintendent. In 1993, John moved back to Chassell to help care for his mother.  Locally he had worked for Chassell Carpentry and had done odd jobs for various people.

Mr. Pyykkonen was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell where he sang in the Church Choir.   He loved to sing (his favorite were old country songs).  He was a very handy person building his garage/man cave in Royal Oak where he would gather with his buddies to work on projects and shoot the bull.  He also loved to deer hunt helping build the Mukkada Lodge where he spent many deer seasons.  John was a gifted person musically being able to play the guitar or piano by ear.  But his favorite past time was visiting with family and friends and talking about past adventures.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his former wife Paulette, his brother Louis, and his infant sister Melita.

Funeral services for John will be held 1 pm Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. DJ Rasner to officiate.  Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery at a later time.

Friends may call on  Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 11 am until time of services the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell.
