Madonna (DesJardin) Kajander

Lake Linden: Madonna (DesJardin) Kajander, 86, of Lake Linden, passed away at her apartment in Lakeview Manor in Hancock on July 7, 2017.

She was born on September 12, 1931 in Hubbell, a daughter of Emil and Celina (Perreault) DesJardin. She attended Saint Cecilia School in Hubbell and was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School.  She attended the University of Michigan on an art scholarship.

She was a Christian Service Coordinator at Saint Clemens Catholic Church in Center Line, Michigan where she helped with Vietnamese refugee relocations.  She was a lifelong seamstress.  She attained a real estate license and worked in real estate for 5 years.  She was an English as a 2nd Language tutor.

She was married to Richard Kajander in Detroit in 1951.  He passed 0n February 1, 2011.

Madonna was a devote Catholic and was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden where she sang in the choir.  She was a member of the Lady Foresters of Calumet.

She enjoyed making picking berries and making jam.  She loved gardens and was devoted to her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 11 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by: 4 children-Richard (Maripi) Kajander, Eric Kajander, Helene (David) Hiner, John (Kristi) Kajander; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-Agnes “Rene” (Fritz) Ahola; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 7, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Linden.  The Pearce Funeral Home in Lake Linden is in charge of arrangements.

Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.
