Obituary: Aili Dunstan

Aili Rebecca (William) Dunstan, 90, a resident of Houghton Canal passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at UP Health Systems – Portage Hospital in Hancock after a short illness.

She was born on October 11, 1932, to the late Jack and Edna (Dorvinen) Ruohonen.  She was married to William Dunstan Sr. for 70 years and they had eight children.

Aili was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Esther Kahkonen, Marie Bradshaw, Rose Kowalczyk, Martha Hermanson, Sylvia Sampson, Mayme Cobb, Florence Ruohonen; her brothers Hjalmer, Peter, Paul and Fredrick, and her two  great-grandchildren, Vanessa Narhi and Colt Anderson. 

Surviving are: her husband; William Dunstan; her children: Cindy (Marv) Heinonen, Chrissy (Luke) Loukus, Carol (Paul) Peterson, Bill (Jean) Dunstan, Jack (Margaret) Dunstan, Jeff Dunstan, Jon (Roberta) Dunstan, and Jay (Colleen) Dunstan, 38 grandchildren, 110 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.  Also, three sisters-in-law, Jean Juntikka, Charlene (Leon) LaPierre and Carol Dunstan; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral service for Aili will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Mark Halonen to officiate.  Burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery.  Friends may call on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, from 10:00 am until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
