Obituary: Aloysius H. Britz

Sun Tan Valley, AZ

     Aloysius H. Britz, 88, a resident of Sun Tan Valley, AZ and former Houghton resident, passed away Thursday March 7, 2019, at the Banner Baywood Heart Hospital, in Mesa, AZ.

     He was born on November 21, 1930, in Hancock, MI, a son of the late Aloysius N. and Ailiin (Kolehmainen) Britz.  Aloysius was raised in Houghton and was a graduate of the Houghton High School.

     Mr. Britz was a veteran having served with the United States Army Air Corp. retiring after 23 years as a chief of Operations.  He then moved back to Houghton where he had helped start and operate the Houghton Transit Service and was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock. In retirement Aloysius enjoyed volunteering across the United States building churches.  He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge #128 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Zor Funster.

     On June 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to June Frey.  They enjoyed traveling with their Airstream trailer visiting different parts of the United States for many years.  More recently they had resided in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Texas before moving to make their home in San Tan Valley, AZ.  Aloysius also an avid train buff.

     Preceding him in death were his sons: Kenneth and Tim, his parents, and his brothers; Phillip, Robert and Kenneth.

     Surviving are:

          His wife June Britz of San Tan Valley, AZ

          5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren

          His brother: David Britz of Chassell

     Funeral services for Aloysius will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday March 19, 2019 at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev.  Peter Vorhes to officiate.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Copper Country Veterans Association.  Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

     Friends may call on Tuesday March 19, 2019 from 12 noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
