Obituary: Barbara Lewis

Hancock: Barbara Lewis, 86, of Hancock, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at U.P. Health System-Portage Hospital in Hancock with her family by her side.

She was born in Lake Linden on November 7, 1932 to the late Lloyd and Loraine Schmelzer. She graduated from Lake Linden High School in 1950.

Barbara was a devoted wife of 65 years, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She started her working career at the Secretary of State of Michigan Welfare Office. She left that position to start her family and later returned to work, where she spent 34 years at the JC Penny’s Catalog Department. She enjoyed shopping and traveling to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially her favorite touch around the Christmas holidays.

She was married to Robert “Bob” Lewis in Lake Linden, Michigan on June 27, 1953.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her in-laws, Allen and Bertha Lewis.

She is survived by her loving husband, Bob of Hancock; children Dr. Stephen Lewis of Grafton, WI, Pamela (Jon) Paavola of Racine, WI, Karen Lewis of Green Bay, WI, and Mary (Greg) Rowe of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren Ryan Paavola (Sarah), Matthew (Nicole) Paavola, Sarah (Christopher) Wolak, Jacob Sincock (Alyssa), Ben Sincock (Paige), Tanya Rowe, Andrea (Ricardo) Martin, and Mark Rowe; great-grandchildren Norah, Grace, Liam, Oliver, and Grant; and by nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Reverend Father William Ssozi to officiate. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lake Linden.

Friends may call on Sunday, June 30th from 4 until 6 P.M. at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock and on Monday from 10 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the Church of the Resurrection.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Church of the Resurrection, Little Brothers~Friends of the Elderly, or Mass remembrances in the name of Barbara Lewis.
