Obituary: Carole A. Kangas

Carole A. (David) Kangas, 77, a resident of Atlantic Mine, passed away Friday January 22, 2021, at the UP Health Systems – Portage Hospital in Hancock following a lengthy illness.

She was born on December 1, 1943, in Hubbell, MI, a daughter of the late Walfred and Marie (Mongeau) Lokojarvi. Carole was raised in Laurium, MI and attended the Calumet schools.

On April 9, 1960, she was united in marriage to David Kangas. The couple had resided in Berlin, Maryland, Bayfield, WI, Guadalupe, TX, and Three Rivers, CA as Dave worked for the United States Parks Service. In retirement they traveled around the country before moving to make their home in Atlantic Mine 20 years ago.

Carole was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock and Chassell VFW Post #6507 Auxiliary. She also enjoyed shopping, visiting with her family and friend and caring for her pets.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Catherine Kallio and her granddaughter Stacy Butterfield.

Jeff (Kathleen Kangas of Douglasville, PA
Lori (Richard) Bradley of Edmond, OK
Her grandchildren: AJ, James, David, Elizabeth, Carl Kevin, Candace and Curtis
10 great grandchildren:
Her sister: Gladys Brownlee of Hancock
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

A memorial service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock with Rev. Brahm Semmler-Smith to officiate. Friends may call from 10 am until the time of service at the church.
