Obituary: Clifford Huhta

UPDATE: A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Mt. View Cemetery of South with Rev. Soren Schmidt to officiate. Military honor will be conducted by the Copper Country Veteran’s Association.

Clifford J.  Huhta Sr., 77, a resident of Twin Lakes, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at his home following a lengthy illness surrounded by his children.

He was born on January 10, 1947, in Hancock a son of the late Kuno and Martha (Hendrickson) Huhta.  Cliff was raised in the Chassell area and was a graduate of the Chassell High School with the class of 1965.

On November 30, 1967, he was united in marriage to Shirley Johnson, the day before joining the US Air Force during the Viet Nam War.  The couple resided in Boston, MA for a short time before moving to make their home in Twin Lakes since 1970.  

Mr. Huhta had worked for White Pine Copper Mine, Strack Construction, Penegor’s Lumber Mill and part time at Krupp’s Mini Mart in retirement.  In the Twin Lakes area Cliff was a member of the Twin Lakes Fire Department, he enjoyed time outdoors, hunting, fishing, taking walks and teasing as many people as he could.  He also was a member of Alfred Erickson Post #186, American Legion of Hancock and enjoyed working on various crafting projects around the home.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his son Scott and his brothers: Theodore, Reuben and Wesley.

            His wife: Shirley Huhta a resident patient at Iron River Care Facility

            His children: Clifford (Janet) Huhta Jr. of Ortonville, MI 

                                     Alan (Christina) Huhta of Twin Lakes

                                    Casie (David) Hansen of Painesdale.

            His grandchildren: Calleigh (Christopher) Gomell, Donny (Nichole) Wilson, Lola Reed, Nancy (Andrew) Zittleman, Amanda (Derek) Matthews, Damion (Shanna) Johnson

            Several Great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews

            A special sister-in-law: Teri (Scott) Holman and their daughter Madisyn

            His sister: Bertha Cuff of Marquette and his extended family.

A funeral service for Clifford will be held 12:00 pm Thursday February 15, 2024, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Mt. View Chapel of South Range with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.  Spring burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range.

Friends may call on Thursday February 15, 2024, from 10 am until time of services at the funeral home.
