Obituary: Daniel Joseph Dulong Sr.

Daniel Joseph Dulong Sr., 73, passed away on June 23, 2021 at the Omega House after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Hancock, Michigan on November 10, 1947 to Paul and Joan (LaBelle) Dulong. After graduating from Hancock High School in 1966, he worked briefly at Pepsi Cola of Houghton before being drafted into the US Army. Daniel served his country for two years, which included a year in Vietnam. Upon his return, he married Ruth Ann Goudge on January 10, 1970 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Quincy Hill.

Daniel worked as a Butcher at Jim’s Foodmart in Houghton for forty three years. Retiring in 2013. He was a member of the Quincy Franklin Hancock Townships Volunteer Fire Department for forty three years, retiring in 2015. He was presented the Firefighter of the Year award in 2015. Daniel also enjoyed playing ball as a left fielder with the Monte Carlo softball team for several years. He made many lifelong friends during these times. Daniel was also an avid Green Bay Packers and Montreal Canadiens fan, which he passed on to his son and grandson.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Joan Anderson and a sister-in-law, Valerie Dulong.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Ann, their children: Daniel Jr. (Sherri) Dulong, Jodi (Scott) Mikesch, and Tara Dulong, their grandchildren: Vanessa and Andrew Dulong, and grand dogs: Lola and Dozer, all residing on Quincy Hill. He is also survived by a brother, Paul Dulong, a sister, Mary (Mike) Condratovich, a brother-in-law, Donald Anderson, and by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 11 AM at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Rev. Father Corbin Eddy to officiate. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton with military honors by the Copper Country Veterans Association.

Friends may call at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock on Monday, June 28, 2021  from 5 until 8 P.M.

His family would like to thank the staff at UPHS Portage and Marquette Oncology, Portage Home Hospice and the Omega House for the kind and compassionate care Daniel received.

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made in Daniel’s name to the Omega House, Copper Country Veterans Association, any local VFW, the Quincy Franklin Hancock Townships Volunteer Fire Department or any other charity of your choice.
