Obituary: Daniel Kargela

Daniel A. Kargela, a lifelong resident of Swedetown, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in his home. Dan was born on July 29, 1938 in Swedetown to the late William and Elma Kargela.

Dan graduated from Calumet High School in 1956. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After serving in the army, Dan began his career working with Peninsular Gas Company from which he retired. In addition, he had continued as a National Guard member.

Dan was an avid hunter, fisherman and blueberry picker. He spent many hours on his brother Irving’s boat trolling on Lake Superior. Dan was a cherished brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor who was always helping out others. He was a dedicated fan of the local sports teams and regularly attended sporting games. He donated on a regular basis to local community organizations.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elma Kargela, his brothers William (Thursa), Allen (Millicent), James and Roger, and one sister Dorothy (Edward) White.

He is survived by his sister Helen (Ronald dec.) Whiton and two brothers, George (Karen) Kargela and John Kargela. Also, surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers please make donations in Daniels honor to the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation.

Visitation will be held on Saturday September 9th from 11-12:00 PM at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) in the funeral home.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM in section 33 of Lake View Cemetery.
