Obituary: Donald Henry Schwenk

Donald Henry Schwenk, 67, of Houghton, died peacefully, Saturday, November 26, 2022, surrounded by family.

Donald was born November 23rd, 1955, to Rosemary and the late Henry “Hank” Schwenk. Donald was preceded in death by his beloved father, Hank, and his sister, Catherine Ann.

Donald graduated from Houghton High School in 1973 and went on to become an electrician. He was a proud member of the Houghton County Fair Board. Don loved working in his shop and could fix just about anything. He was always happy to help others and to share a joke while doing so. One of his favorite ways to spend an afternoon was to head out for a bowl of chili with his friends.

Donald is survived by his devoted mother, Rosemary Schwenk and his sisters, Mary (Ron) Chopp and Susan Schwenk. He leaves a legacy of kindness and courage to persevere to his children: Alison (Leif) Street, Joseph (Samantha) Schwenk, Alex (Angela) Schwenk and grandchildren: Emily (Rudolph) Voght, Carter Schwenk, Aubrey Bukovich, Milma Schwenk, Madelyn Schwenk and Henry Schwenk. Also mourning his loss is Jason Kovach and his children, Zoe and Riley.

Don was a practiced storyteller with a contagious smile and a kind heart. He will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Thursday at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Rev. Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton in the spring. Visitation will be in the church one hour prior to Mass.
