Obituary: Gary Wenberg

Gary Wenberg, 79, a resident of Traprock Valley passed away on Monday evening November 28, 2022 at his home.

He was born on October 21, 1943, in Hancock a son of the late Martin and Esther (Nordbeck) Wenberg.

On November 28, 1970, he was united in marriage to the former Nancy Lamppa. They celebrated 52 years of marriage to the day.

Gary grew up working various jobs as a boy and playing youth hockey and basketball. He graduated from Dollar Bay High School with the class of 1962 and attended Michigan Technological University, where he earned his PhD in physiology and biochemistry. Gary worked for Health System Agency in Marquette and Calumet, Suomi College teaching in the nursing department, Bella Vista Motel in Copper Harbor, Lake Linden Hubbell Schools in maintenance and transportation, and he did carpentry projects big and small throughout the decades. Most recently Gary was the Clerk for Schoolcraft Township. He also volunteered as a youth hockey and baseball coach. Gary was a lifelong member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Dollar Bay, where he served as furnace starter and stoker as a boy and later as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister Sheryl.

Daughter Jodie (Jojo) Hagan of Oregon

Grandchildren: Caleb, Nora, Petra, Titus, and Terra

Brothers: Robert (Gwen) Wenberg of Texas

Marlin (Barb) Wenberg of Dollar Bay

Glen (fiancée Diane) Wenberg of Dollar Bay

A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 3, 2022, at 11:30 AM in the Bethany Baptist Church in Dollar Bay with Pastor Brian Knight to officiate. Visitation will be from 10-11:30 AM on Saturday at the church.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the services.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathies memorials and donations may be directed to the family so they can honor Gary’s wishes.
