Obituary: George A. Lepisto

HANCOCK

George A. Lepisto, 86, a resident of Hancock, passed away at home Saturday evening, February 2, 2019, from an apparent heart attack.

He was born July 29, 1932, in Laurium, a son of the late Arthur and Esther (Tormala) Lepisto.

George graduated from Calumet High School and attended Michigan State University.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Korea from 1953-54.

On October 15, 1955, he married the former Carolyn “Carol” Barringer in Laurium. Carol passed away October 7, 2015.

George worked as a home contractor for Wausau Homes and Wisconsin Homes.

George was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock and Copper Country Lodge 135 F&AM. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting and bird hunting, and being on his boat, making many trips to Isle Royale. George enjoyed the company of others. Whenever he ran into someone and they asked how he was, his reply was “able to be about”!

George is survived by his loving family; daughters, Ann Lepisto of Hancock and her daughter, Katelyn (Jordan) Young of Minnesota and their children, Olivia and Jagger Young; Laura Lepisto (Ron Eikaas) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; his son, Tom (Sheryl) Lepisto of Centreville, Maryland and their daughters, Erica (Doug) Vinish and their daughter, Wren of Chester, Maryland, and Mallory Lepisto of Centreville; a brother, Russell (Duffy) Lepisto of Bootjack; three sisters, Jean (Charles) Royal of Bloomington, Indiana, Carol (Joe) Giachino of Hancock, and Sara (Pancho) Nunez of Chicago; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Phillip) Smith of Royal Oak, and MaryAnn Comaianni of Detroit; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents and wife, George was also preceded in death by an infant brother, John; and an infant great-granddaughter, Jett Young, daughter of Katelyn and Jordan.

A family celebration of life for George and Carol will be held this summer with interment in the Chassell Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Inter-Lutheran Seminary in the name of George A. Lepisto.
