Obituary: Gerald H. Kangas

Gerald Henry Kangas, 74, a former resident of Hancock, passed away at his Appleton, Wisconsin home on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 after  lengthy battle with cancer with his loving family at his side.

     Gerald was born on January 12, 1946 in Hancock to Henry and Edna Kangas. He graduated from Hancock High School in 1964, and married Judith St.John of Hancock on October 17, 1970.

     Gerald was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock and worked for Hancock Bottling Company for 31 years as a Coca-Cola delivery driver.

     Gerald loved baseball and spent many years playing Twilight League baseball and in the Copper Country Fast Pitch softball league. He enjoyed spending time with his 2 sons and then with his grandchildren later in life. He loved time spent taking his sons fishing, golfing, and coaching them in junior hockey and little league when they were young. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and the Green Bay Packers. 

     Gerald and his wife Judith moved from Hancock, Michigan to Appleton, Wisconsin in 2011.

      Besides his parents Henry and Edna Kangas, he was also preceded in death by a brother, James Kangas.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judith Ann Kangas; 2 sons, Jason (Jamie) Kangas of Negaunee, MI and Justin (Jennifer) Kangas of Appleton, WI; and by 5 grandchildren: Aili, Maija, Jada, Ellisyn, and Brennan Kangas.

     Graveside services will be held in the spring of 2021 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton with Reverend Father William Ssozi to officiate.
