Obituary: James Larson

James Arthur Larson, age 87 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Tuesday, September 21st, 2021 at Bayside Village in L’Anse.

He was born February 18, 1934 in Romeo, MI son of Robert and Nona (Granseth) Larson. In 1952 Jim graduated from Romeo High School. He was in the U. S. Air Force from 1953-57 during the Korean War. Jim married the former Betty Ann Niemi on December 22, 1956 in L’Anse where they resided for a year, then moved to downstate Michigan for work. Jim worked in a factory during the day and at night he went to Electronics Institute of Technology in Detroit for 3 years. Then he got hired by GE as an Electronics Technician and he worked in numerous states with his family. In 1989 he retired and moved back to L’Anse in May 1990.

Jim is a member of the L’Anse Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, which he did often with his father and brothers in their younger years. Jim loved the outdoors and doing projects in the yard.

Surviving are his wife Betty Larson of L’Anse; sons, Mark (Cynthia) Larson of Garnr, Iowa, Ronald (Margaret) Larson of Edinboro, PA; brother Daniel (Paulette) Larson of Oscoda, MI; sister Waneta Berlin of Imlay City, MI; grandchildren, Daniel, Lydia, Benjamin, Hannah, Haley, Spencer; great granddaughter Astrid; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings, Robert, Bernard, Delores Spies, and LeRoy.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 28th at 12:00 p.m. at the L’Anse Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Bishop officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. The family requests that masks be worn at the church. Burial will be in the Aura Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Baraga County Area Veterans under the direction of the American Legion Post 444. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
