Joseph Ray “Joey” Manninen, 74, a longtime resident of Mancelona, Michigan, passed away on Sunday evening, January 28, 2018, at the J&J North Limits CLT Home in Mancelona.

Joey was born on January 4, 1944, in Detroit to Reino (Ray) and Kathryn (Hyypio) Manninen who were both originally from the Copper Country.  Joey was born prematurely and was developmentally disabled.  He spent the past 31 years living at the J&J North Limits Home.  He was lovingly cared for by their staff.  Although Joey could not walk or talk, he had an impact on those who cared for him and they grew to love him.  We praise God for the wonderful care they gave him!

Joey is survived by his two brothers, Ken (Marianne) Manninen of Fenton, Michigan, and Glen (Mary) Manninen of Chassell; one sister, Rachel (John) Nadeau of Munising; two uncles; a niece; several nephews and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Kathryn Manninen; his paternal grandparents, John and Gustava Manninen; his maternal grandparents, Axel and Ida Hyypio; and an infant niece, Rachel Marie Nadeau.

A funeral service will take place in the spring with burial in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Arrangements will be announced at that time.

Joey joined his mom and dad in heaven on January 28th and is no longer bound by physical limitations.  What a glorious reunion that must have been and we who are left here look forward to joining them one day also.  Joey is in the arms of Jesus and is safe evermore!

Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home of Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at antilafuneral.com.
