Obituary: Joy E. McLean

    Joy E. McLean, 96, a resident of Houghton passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the Omega House in Houghton.

     She was born on March 2, 1927, in Houghton, MI, a daughter of the late Samuel and Eliza (Dunstan) McLean.  Joy was raised in west Houghton and graduated from the Houghton High School with the class of 1946.

     Ms. McLean began working for Messner Coal Dock in the office until working for the Portage Lake District Library retiring in 1988.  Joy also was happy to help care for her mother at home as her health declined and she passed away in 1962.  For over 20 years Joy has made her home at the Heritage Manor Apartments in Houghton. 

     Ms. McLean was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church of Houghton.  Joy was a private person that enjoyed walking and taking care of herself.

     Preceding her in death were her parents, Her sisters: Lillian Adams and Anne Warrick and her brothers: Sam, Bill, Joe and John.

     Surviving are:

            A special niece (The daughter she never had) Cindy McLean

            Numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins

      A memorial service for Joy will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Grace United Methodist Church of Houghton with Rev. Eric Falker to officiate.  Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.

     Joy’s family would like to thank the Doctor’s and staff’s of UP Health Systems – Portage, Portage Home Health & Hospice along with the Omega House for the care given to her in her times of need.
