Obituary: Karen V. Mayo

Karen V. Mayo, age 84 of Baraga, MI passed away Monday, July 25, 2022 at her daughter’s home in L’Anse. She was born in on January 3, 1938 the daughter of the late Cyril and Helen (Seeman) Bergerson. Karen graduated from Baraga High School in 1955. She married Ulric P. Mayo in Baraga on April 26, 1958. He preceded her in death in 2000. Karen had been employed with Baraga County District Court as a Magistrate until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Baraga and the Baraga American Legion Post #444 Auxiliary. Karen enjoyed genealogy and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. She loved watching her grandchildren play hockey, and football.

Karen is survived by her loving daughters, Lori Mayo of Baraga, Kim (Dave) Maki of L’Anse, Kathleen Mayo of L’Anse, and Elizabeth Mayo (Glenn) of Baraga, grandchildren Kelsey Mayo, Jordan (Rebecca) Maki, Shane Maki, and Nicholas Mayo, great grandchildren Korbin Mayo and Harper and Hudson Maki, brother James (Carole) Bergerson of L’Anse, and sister Sally (Allen) Patovisti of Baraga, her aunt JoAnn Penner of Libby, Montana, sisters-in-law Barbara Mayo of Baraga, JoAnn Ghiardi of Gwinn, Dorothy Mayo of Baraga, Delores Mayo of Marquette and Marlene Damgaard of Florida, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law John (Doris) Mayo of L’Anse,  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother and sister-in-law William and Mary Bergerson, father-in-law and mother-in-law Ulric J. and Josephine Mayo, and brothers-in-law William Mayo, Robert Mayo, Donald Magnant and Jack Ghiardi.

A memorial funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Father Corey Litzner officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service, the family invites friends to join them for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located at the funeral home.

Interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
