Obituary: Margaret E. “Marg” Kantola

Margaret E. “Marg” Kantola, age 82, of L’Anse, MI and formerly of Covington, MI passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Bayside Village, L’Anse.

She was born in Detroit, MI on November 17, 1936 the daughter of the late John T. and Mary M. (Jolliff) Bera. Marg graduated from Redford Union High School, Redford, MI in 1954. She married Francis W. “Bill” Kantola on May 25, 1973 at St Johns Lutheran Church in Farmington Hill, MI. Bill preceded her in death on June 12, 2016.

Marg had worked for various insurance companies as an insurance agent. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington, MI, the Covington Historical Society and Covington Parks and Recreation. Marg was a world traveler and had been to Spain, France and Finland twice. She was a former Weight Watcher leader and enjoyed volunteering in any way she could. She participated in Finnfest USA in 2005 and was very proud of her Finnish heritage.

Marg is survived by her loving daughter Eva Kantola and her husband Charles of Iron River, MI, sister Mary Lewis of Bay City, MI, niece Melissa (Kevin) Hobart of Midland, MI. sister-in-law Ruth Selden of L’Anse, numerous cousins and special little girls Jada and Jaycee Roe, who Marge loved and thought of as her own granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents and his husband.

Funeral services for Marg will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse with Pastor Richard Little officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Covington Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service. Immediately following the funeral service, friends are invited to join the family for fellowship and a potluck luncheon at Bethany Lutheran Church, Covington, MI.

The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel, L’Anse has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
