Obituary: Marie Elizabeth Krieber

Marie Elizabeth (Colombo) Krieber of Houghton, Michigan passed at the age of 86 surrounded by her loving family on August 11, 2020. Marie peacefully joined her husband, William (Bill) Krieber.

Marie was born on April 3, 1934 to Frank and Lucille (Blessent) Colombo in Calumet, Michigan. Following her graduation from Calumet High School in 1951, she completed the Nursing Program from St. Paul Nursing School in 1955. While raising her family, she worked as a Registered Nurse primarily at Houghton County Medical Care Facility retiring in 1996 after 15 years of service.

In 1954, Marie met her husband, Bill, and they were married on June 25, 1955. Marie and Bill were married for 65 precious years and raised their family of four children, Daniel, Mary Beth, Frank and Therese in Houghton, Michigan.

Marie was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother who dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a talented cook and could often be found in the kitchen making her famous Italian dishes. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and golfing. Marie was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Above all, Marie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She especially cherished the many happy times with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her dear husband Bill. Marie is survived by her four children, Daniel (Barbara) Krieber of Traverse City, MI, Mary Beth (Robert) Alexander of Upson, WI, Frank (Lisa) Krieber of Saline, MI and Therese Johnson of Panama City, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christen (Mark) Cook, Anthony (Jennifer) Williams, Anna Krieber, Christine (Matthew) Vara, Katherine (Brendon) Moss, Andrew Krieber, Laura Krieber, Gavin Byorick and eight great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bill and Marie Krieber will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 10: 00 a.m. with Reverend Father John Martignon to officiate.

Private interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton with the Copper Country Veterans Association conducting military honors for Bill.

Family requests any gifts or donations be directed to the St. Ignatius Capital Campagne Fund, at St. Ignatius 305 Portage St, Houghton, MI 49931, in memory of Bill and Marie Krieber.
