Obituary: Martin James Feira

Martin James Feira, 86, of Houghton passed away Monday evening, May 22, 2023, at the Omega House in Houghton.

He was born on November 17, 1936, in Houghton, Michigan, to Dominic and Mary (Giachino) Feira. He was married to Ruth Ambrogio on November 4, 1961, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Michigan Technological University and lived and worked briefly in Milwaukee. They then moved to Houghton where he spent his 26 year career working at Michigan Tech. He was proud to have served the City of Houghton on the City Council and as a longtime mayor for over two decades.

 Martin was preceded in death by his wife of almost 49 years Ruth in October 2010, parents; Dominic and Mary, and in-laws Frank and Mary Ambrogio.

Martin is survived by son Marty (Peggy Myllyoja); daughters Paula (Mark) Zenner and Kathleen (Gregg) Richards; four grandchildren Blaire and Sloane Zenner and Kelsie (Jace Krasselt) and Hunter (Hannah Hobson) Richards, and his dog Bella. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, many that gathered weekly for morning coffee and lunch. He will be remembered for his friendship, smile, and love of his grandchildren.

At the request of the deceased, a private service will be held at a later date and his cremains will be interred in the columbarium at Trinity Episcopal Church in Houghton. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family requests contributions be made in Martin’s memory to the Omega House.
