Obituary: Michael Aho

Michael J. Aho, 57, a resident of South Range, passed away Monday, September 6, 2021, at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse, following a short illness

He was born on September 24, 1963, in Hancock a son of the late Roy and Elma (Beckman) Aho. Mike was raised in Calumet and attended the Calumet Schools.

Mr. Aho had worked various jobs in the area before enlisting in the United States Navy where he serviced aboard the USS America.

Following his time in the Navy, Mike returned to the Copper Country and worked various jobs and cooked for various area restaurants. He then moved to Kentucky and had worked as a Security Officer at the Federal Building in Cincinnati, OH.

Mike was united in marriage to the former Rose Marie Reck. The couple parted as close friends after a while.

Since 2019, Mike has made his home in South Range, MI. He enjoyed talks about history, playing his guitar, and watching football and Hockey.

Preceding him in death were his mother and step-father Elma and George Anderson, his biological father, Roy, and his nephew: Cameron Ronken.

His granddaughter: Naomi Aho of Grand Rapids
His sisters: Janet Seltmann of South Range, MI
Sandra (Richard) Altz of Arnheim
Christine Camp of South Range
His step-brothers:
Tom (Marsha) Anderson of Georgia
Ken (Lynn) Anderson of Negaunee
His nephews and niece: Michael Perfetti, Aaron Altz, Amy Perfetti and Jesse Ronken
Several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service for Michael will be held 1:00 pm Friday October 22, 2021, at the Lakeview Cemetery of Calumet with Rev. Micah Cavaleri to officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Copper Country Veterans association.
