Obituary: Roger A. Koski

Roger A. Koski, age 80 of Keweenaw Bay, MI passed away with his loving family by his side at his home in Keweenaw Bay on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. He was born in Chassell, MI on August 24, 1942 the son of the late Albert and Aileen (Hietala) Koski. Roger attended school in Keweenaw Bay and Baraga. Following his graduation in 1960, he worked at D & D Machine Shop. Roger served in the National Guard during the Detroit Riots. In 1984, Roger purchased the D & D Machine Shop, renaming it Koski Welding and operated the shop until his retirement. He married the former Janice “Jan” Cote at Mission United Lutheran Church, Pelkie on April 11, 2009. Roger was a member of First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Keweenaw Bay and the Keweenaw Bay Volunteer Fire Department and had been a former Fire Chief. He enjoyed collecting tractors and old cars and going to auctions.

Roger is survived by his loving wife Jan of Keweenaw Bay, daughter Leann (Jim) Ellenich of Waupaca, WI, stepdaughter Sherrie Mannikko of Baraga, stepsons Fred J. Cote III (Jennifer Reed) of Zeba and Arthur Cote of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren Elizabeth and Cory along with other grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers John (Anita) Koski of Chassell and Gordon Koski of Keweenaw Bay, and sisters Helen (Jim) Urpila of Keweenaw Bay and Elaine (Jake) Jahfetson of Keweenaw Bay. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew David Jahfetson.

A private family funeral service will be held. Interment will take place in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery.
