MTU
Michigan Tech’s Kylie Moxley has been named the GLIAC North Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Moxley scored a career-high 34 points against Northwood last Thursday, and added 20 in the Huskies’ win over Lake Superior State on Saturday.

The MTU hockey team remains 14th in the nation in both the USCHO and USA TODAY/USA Hockey Magazine Polls.

Michigan Tech skier Andrea Lee has been named the Central Collegiate Ski Association Athlete of the Week. At the NCAA Central Regional in Ishpeming last weekend, she won the 15k Classic, and finished a close third in the 5k freestyle.

Finlandia
The Finlandia University women’s basketball team plays its final regular-season game at Maranatha Baptist University tonight.

Matt Marchel has had the “interim” tag removed from his title as head coach of the Finlandia women’s hockey team. Marchel coached the squad all season, after the departure of Danielle Syrowik. He’s a 2010 Finlandia graduate.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings return home to face the Blue Jackets tonight. Face-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons broke their five-game losing streak with a 96-88 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night. Reggie Jackson led Detroit with 23 points, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 19. The Pistons host the 76ers tomorrow night. Tip-off is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Pistons have rescinded that trade that brought them Donatas Motiejunas and Marcus Thornton from the Houston Rockets. The team has only said that not all of the players passed their medical tests. That likely means Motiejunas, who underwent back surgery after last season, and has struggled to recover. Detroit had given up backup center Joel Anthony and a protected 2016 first-round draft pick. Anthony should be back with the team in time for tomorrow night’s game.

Registration is open for the annual VFW Ice Fishing Tournament, which will be held Saturday on Chassell Bay. Adults fish for walleye, crappie, pike or perch from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The entry fee is $15.00. The kids tournament will run from 7:00 until 1:00. There’s no entry fee. Sign up at the Chassell VFW post on US-41 any day this week, or Saturday morning between 7:00 and 10:00.

Our high school hockey coverage continues tonight, when Houghton skates at Jeffers. Our pregame show will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.
