Tigers Reclaim Portion of First Place
The Tigers moved back into a tie for first place in the American League Central Division last night, by beating the Royals 4-2. Max Scherzer won his 16th game, giving up one run on seven hits before leaving in the seventh. Rajai Davis and J.D. Martinez homered for Detroit.

The Tigers wrap up that series against the Royals this evening. Rick Porcello will pitch against James Shields. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on FM 99.3 and AM 1400, WCCY.

Milwaukee Brewers Circle LogoBrewers Fall Again
The Brewers continued to struggle last night, with a 6-3 loss to the Marlins. Miami scored three runs off Francisco Rodriguez in the top of the ninth to put the game away, and send Milwaukee to its 16th loss in the last 18 games.

The Brewers continue that home series against the Marlins tonight. Wily Peralta will start against Jarred Cosart.

Saint Louis and Pittsburgh both lost, so Milwaukee remains six games behind the Cardinals, and a game-and-a-half behind the Pirates, in third place in the National League Central Division.

Lions Lose Bentley For Season
Detroit Lions’ cornerback Bill Bentley will mis the rest of the season, after tearing an ACL during Monday night’s win over the Giants.

Billups Retires from NBA
Two-term Detroit Pistons guard Chauncey Billups says he’s retiring from the NBA. Billups will turn 38 this month. He was the NBA Finals MVP when Detroit won the league title in 2004. The Pistons traded him to Denver in 2008, but re-signed him before last season. He missed much of last season with injuries.

Pistons forward Greg Monroe has been suspended for two games by the NBA for drunk driving. Monroe pleaded guilty this spring, after having been arrested in a Detroit suburb in February.

MTU women’s tennis player Kwang Suthijindawong has been named GLIAC Player of the Week. Suthijindawong went 4-0 over the weekend for the Huskies at the top spots in singles and doubles.

Finlandia Volleyball Defeats NIU
The Finlandia volleyball team shut out Northland International University 3-0 last night. Augustine Brutus and Hancock’s Katelyn Anderson each had seven kills.

The Finlandia men’s and women’s soccer teams both play at Northland College this afternoon.

– Hancock blanked L’Anse 3-0.
– Houghton defeated Lake Linden-Hubbell 3-1.
– Baraga shut out Chassell 3-0.
