After giving up a leadoff home run to Shin-Soo Choo, Zimmermann shut down the Rangers over eight innings, allowing only three more hits, and striking out 11. Joe Jiménez gave up a hit in the ninth, but earned the save. James McCann and JaCoby Jones homered for Detroit.

The Tigers host the Rangers again this afternoon. Mike Fiers will pitch against Cole Hamels. Pregame coverage will begin at 3:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Starter Freddy Peralta gave up a run on three hits over six innings. The Braves threatened in the seventh, scoring three runs off Jacob Barnes. Dan Jennings relieved Barnes with runners on second and third and no outs, and retired three straight to stop the rally.
