MLB

The Detroit Tigers scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning, and defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 last evening. Tyler Alexander turned in perhaps the best start of his career, giving up just one run on four hits over seven innings. Alexander worked his way out of trouble a couple of times early, but retired the last 11 batters he faced. Jays’ starter Robbie Ray was even better, holding Detroit scoreless over seven frames, before the Bengals scratched out a run on a Zack Short single, a sacrifice bunt, a stolen base and a wild pitch in the top of the eighth. Two-out singles by Harold Castro, jonathan Schoop and Jeimer Candelario broke the game open in the top of the 10th. Gregory Soto pitched the final two innings, and earned the win. Miguel Cabrera did not hit a home run, and continues to be stuck at 499 for his career.

The Tigers play in Cleveland again this afternoon. Wily Peralta will start against Hyun Jin Ryu. Coverage will begin at 2:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers were held to just three hits in a 4-1 loss to the Washington Nationals last evening. Brett Anderson pitched into the sixth inning, gave up three runs, and took the loss. Avisaíl García homered.

The Brewers host the Nationals again this afternoon. Eric Lauer will pitch against Paolo Espino.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons will open the 2021-2022 season at home against the Chicago Bulls on October 20th. Barring any further COVID-19 issues, NBA teams will play the customary 82 regular season games. Listen for select Pistons contests this winter on 99.3 The Lift.

NHL

Evgeny Svechnikov has left the Detroit Red Wings. Svechnikov has signed a one-year deal with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. That’s the Winnipeg Jets’ top farm team, and he’ll compete for a roster spot this fall. Svechnikov was the Wings’ top pick in the 2015 draft. His departure comes on the heals of reports that the team is buying out the contract of center Frans Nielsen. He was entering the final season of a six-year deal.

NFL
