Pistons’ Late Surge Falls Short – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

The boys high school basketball tournament continues with the state quarterfinals this evening. In Division Four, Ewen-Trout Creek will face Rudyard at Munising High School at 7:00.

College Baseball

The Finlandia University baseball team has introduced a new recruit. Trent White is an infielder from Middleburg, Florida.

The Detroit Pistons couldn’t climb out of an early hole, and fell to the Portland Trail Blazers 119-115 last night. The Pistons trailed by 23 points in the third quarter. They came back to take a brief one-point lead, but couldn’t sustain the momentum. Cade Cunningham and Saddiq Bey each scored 25 points.

The Pistons host the Atlanta Hawks tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Detroit Red Wings entertain the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Wings made a couple of deals ahead of yesterday’s trade deadline. Defensemen Nick Leddy and Luke Witkowski head to the St. Louis Blues, in exchange for center Oskar Sundqvist, defenseman Jake Walman and a second-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Forward Vladislav Namestnikov goes to the Dallas Stars, in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2024. All three of the traded players will become free agents at the end of the season.

NFL free agent signings continue. Yesterday, the Detroit Lions inked deals with former Baltimore Ravens linebacker and special teams standout Chris Board, and with former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Mike Hughes.

The Green Bay Packers have re-signed two of their free agents – tight end Robert Tonyan and cornerback Rasul Douglas.

The Detroit Tigers lost 3-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday. Starter Matt Manning gave up a hit over two scoreless innings. Akil Badoo hit a triple.

The Tigers will face the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon.

The Milwaukee Brewers outslugged the San Francisco Giants 13-6 last night. Starter Adrian Houser tossed three scoreless innings, and struck out five. Willy Adames and Jamie Westbrook homered.

The Brewers will play the Chicago White Sox this afternoon.
