Brewers Fall to Giants – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

With snow in the forecast, all of today’s high school sports contests have been canceled. The Calumet at Kingsford softball games have been rescheduled to tomorrow.

College Softball

The Finlandia University softball team has introduced a new recruit for next season. Lacy Soliz is an outfielder from Austin, Texas.

NBA

Opening-round NBA tournament play continued last evening.

In the Eastern Conference…
• The Boston Celtics defeated the Brooklyn Nets 116-112. Boston sweeps the series 4-0.
• The Toronto Raptors shut down the Philadelphia 76ers 103-88. Philly leads that set 3-2.

In the Western Conference…
• The Dallas Mavericks cruised past the Utah Jazz 102-77. Dallas is up 3-2 in that series.

In the Eastern Conference today…
• The Atlanta Hawks visit the Miami Heat. Miami leads that series 3-1.

In the Western Conference today…
• The Memphis Grizzles host the Minnesota Timberwolves. That set is tied 2-2.
• The Phoenix Suns entertain the New Orleans Pelicans. That series is tied 2-2.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings visit the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight.

NAHL

Houghton native and former Michigan Tech standout Blake Hietala has been named the head coach of the new North American Hockey League team in Eagle River, Wisconsin. Hietala played with the Huskies through the 2015 season, then spent a couple of years in the professional minor leagues. He’s been an assistant coach with the USHL Green Bay Gamblers for the past four seasons.

Copper Island Hockey, LLC, which includes some local investors, has purchased the NAHL’s Minnesota Magicians franchise, and are relocating it to Eagle River.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open a series at Minnesota tonight. Coverage will begin at 7:20 on 99.3 The Lift. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Chris Paddack.

The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the San Francisco Giants 4-2 last evening. Corbin Burnes pitched into the seventh, allowing no runs on two hits, and striking out 11. San Francisco broke through with two-run homers off Trevor Gott in the eighth, and Jake Cousins in the ninth. Willy Adames homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers open a set in Pittsburgh this evening. Brandon Woodruff will start against Mitch Keller.
