College Hockey

The Red Wings suffered their first loss of the season last night, falling to the Kings 5-4 in overtime. Oskar Sundqvist’s first goal of the season with 41 seconds remaining in regulation forced the extra period, but Phillip Danault’s second tally of the night 72 seconds into overtime ended the game. David Perron scored twice for the Wings. Ville Husso took the loss in net.

The Wings visit the Blackhawks Friday. Coverage will begin at 8:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit will be without Tyler Bertuzzi for at least a month. The team is describing his ailment only as an “upper body injury.” He left Saturday’s game against the Devils after he was hit by a puck on the right hand.

The Pistons begin their regular season tomorrow at home against the Magic. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit has waived veteran guard Kemba Walker. Walker was obtained from the Knicks in the deal that brought the Pistons the 13th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. It was a salary dump move, and Walker was never expected to play for Detroit. Walker will collect his full $9.2 million salary for this season. The Pistons used the draft pick to take Jalen Duren.

The Yankees and Guardians were rained out in New York last night. Game five of that American League Divisional Series will be played this afternoon.

The National League Championship Series between the Padres and Braves will begin tonight in San Diego.

Last night, Dustin Hopkins’ fourth field goal of the game lifted the Chargers to a 19-16 overtime victory over the Broncos.
