Justin Upton’s home run in the second inning provided the only run of the game, as the Detroit Tigers shaded the Minnesota Twins 1-0. The blow was enough to give Matt Boyd his first win of the season. Boyd gave up just three hits and struck out seven over six innings. Justin Wilson, Shane Greene and Francisco Rodriguez completed the shutout.

The Tigers host the Twins again tonight. Anibal Sanchez will pitch against Tommy Milone. Hear the first pitch at 7:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Detroit’s two injured starting pitchers are making progress. Daniel Norris made his first rehab start for the Toledo Mud Hens last night. He gave up five hits and one run over four innings, and struck out four. Jordan Zimmermann threw 25 fastballs in a bullpen session yesterday, and reported no discomfort from his neck strain. He could head out for a rehab start as early as this weekend.

The Milwaukee Brewers begin a three-game series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh this evening. Junior Guerra will pitch against Jameson Taillon.
