Audette Throws Fast Pitch Shutout – Tuesday Sports Wrap

Justin Upton’s home run in the second inning provided the only run of the game, as the Detroit Tigers shaded the Minnesota Twins 1-0. The blow was enough to give Matt Boyd his first win of the season. Boyd gave up just three hits and struck out seven over six innings. Justin Wilson, Shane Greene and Francisco Rodriguez completed the shutout.

Detroit’s two injured starting pitchers are making progress. Daniel Norris made his first rehab start for the Toledo Mud Hens last night. He gave up five hits and one run over four innings, and struck out four. Jordan Zimmermann threw 25 fastballs in a bullpen session yesterday, and reported no discomfort from his neck strain. He could head out for a rehab start as early as this weekend.

The Milwaukee Brewers begin a three-game series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh this evening. Junior Guerra will pitch against Jameson Taillon.

– Sarah Audette pitched a shutout, as Auto Pro Glass and Tire blanked Mattila Rock and Dock 15-0. Audette struck out four and walked three. Mel Baker took the loss for Mattila Rock and Dock. Baker had two strikeouts and no walks. Selena Stromer had four hits for Auto Pro, and Mandy Perrault, Audette, Megan Yeo and Julie Hendrickson each had two hits. Heather Mensch, Darla Mensch and Katie Mattila each had one hit a piece for Mattila Rock and Dock.
– Superior National Bank defeated Northern Michigan Land Brokers 8-2. Rosalie Anderson was the winning pitcher, going four innings while striking out eight and walking two. Adena Anderson pitched the final two innings and walked four. Hannah Hill took the loss for Northern Michigan Land Brokers. She struck out two and walked two.
Kirsten Berg had three singles for Superior National Bank, and Andrea L’Esperance and Molly Berg each had two singles. Katrien Sheffer and Alexa Johnson each had a single for Northern Michigan Land Brokers.
