Baraga Girls Advance to Regional Final – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School

In the Division Four girls basketball tournament regional semifinals last night, Baraga fell behind early, then came on strong to defeat Munising 57-42. Jaylyne Lindemann led the Vikings with 18 points. Reide Osterman added 15, and Rylie Koskinen contributed 14. Baraga will face Stephenson in the regional championship game tomorrow night at 7:00 at Kingsford. The Eagles eliminated Ewen-Trout Creek 60-41. In the Division Four boys tournament, Dollar Bay-Tamarack City will take on Pellston in the quarterfinals tonight at 7:00 at Escanaba. There are a few seats remaining on the fan bus that will leave the school at 2:45. Sign up here.

Finlandia

The Finlandia University softball and baseball teams continue their Florida spring break schedules.

The softball team lost 12-0 to Husson University, and 7-3 to Westfield State University yesterday. The Lions have today off.

The baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Lasell College yesterday, 14-2 and 13-0. The Lions will play Wisconsin Lutheran College today.

MTU

Former Michigan Tech hockey player Jake Lucchini has signed a one-year, entry-level contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lucchini will report this week to Pittsburgh’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

NHL

The Detroit Red Wings will visit the Montreal Canadiens tonight. Pregame coverage begins at 7:10 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Detroit Pistons’ recent offensive juggernaut ran out of steam last night in a 103-75 loss to the Brooklyn Nets. Blake Griffin was held to just 10 points. Andre Drummond led the team with 13. The win moved Brooklyn ahead of Detroit in the race for the sixth Eastern Conference playoff berth. The Pistons visit the Miami Heat tomorrow night. Pregame coverage starts at 7:05 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The Detroit Tigers blanked the Minnesota Twins 3-0 yesterday in Grapefruit League play. Tyson Ross gave up one hit over four innings. JaCoby Jones homered. The Tigers face the Boston Red Sox this afternoon. Listen for Tigers baseball again this season on 99.3 The Lift.

The Milwaukee Brewers opened a big early lead, and held on to defeat the Chicago White Sox 8-5 in Cactus League action yesterday. Jhoulys Chacín pitched shutout ball into the fifth inning. Ryan Braun hit his first home run of the spring, and Cory Spangenberg also hit one out. The Brewers will face the San Francisco Giants tonight.

NFL

The NFL free agent signing period doesn’t begin until tomorrow, but reports of deals are leaking out all over the league.

The Detroit Lions have reportedly reached a five-year deal with defensive end Trey Flowers, who played under Lions head coach Matt Patricia at new England. They’ve also reportedly agreed to terms with former Pittsburgh tight end Jesse James, former Seattle cornerback Justin Coleman, and veteran receiver Danny Amendola, who played for Miami last season. Both Coleman and Amendola also spent time with the Patriots.
