Baseball, Softball District Tourneys Today – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

In golf, the U.P. Division Three finals were played yesterday…
• North Central won the boys meet, with Ontonagon second. Lake Linden-Hubbell’s Marcus Sutherland tied for second individually.
• Ontonagon also took second in the girls meet, behind Cedarville-Detour. The Gladiators’ Madyson Pantti placed fifth individually.

Full results were not posted.

District softball and baseball champions will be crowned today.

In baseball…
• In Division Three at Iron Mountain…
  – Houghton faces Iron Mountain at 11:30 Eastern Time.
  – Calumet takes on Negaunee at 2:00 Eastern Time.
  – The championship will start at 4:30 Eastern Time.
Coverage of the Gremlins and Copper Kings will begin at 11:10 on KBear 102.3.

 • In Division Four at Ironwood…
– Ontonagon faces Ironwood at 11:00 Eastern Time.
– Jeffers plays Lake Linden-Hubbell at 1:00 Eastern Time.
– The championship will start at 3:30 Eastern Time.

In softball…
• In Division Three at Westwood…
  – Calumet faces Houghton at 1:00.
  – Westwood plays Negaunee at 3:00.
  – The championship game will begin at 5:00.

 • In Division Four at the Hancock Driving Park…
– Baraga meets Gogebic at 10:00.
– Hancock takes on L’Anse at 1:00.

College Hockey

The Finlandia University men’s hockey team has added a new recruit. Kyle Lee is a defenseman from North Tonawanda, New York. He was an EHL All Star last year with the Cape Cod Seahawks.

NHL

In the NHL playoffs last night, the Avalanche blanked the Oilers 4-0. Colorado leads the Western Conference final 2-0, with game three set for tomorrow in Edmonton.

The Eastern Conference final continues tonight, as the Rangers host the Lightning. New York won the series opener Wednesday.

NBA

The Celtics opened the NBA championship series last night with a 120-108 victory over the Warriors. Game two will be played Sunday in Oakland.

MLB

Daz Cameron’s two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Twins yesterday. Alex Faedo gave up both Minnesota runs over five innings. Alex Lange got the win in relief.

The Tigers visit the Yankees tonight. Elvin Rodriguez will pitch against Gerrit Cole. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to edge the Padres 5-4 last night. The Crew loaded the bases with a single and two batters hit by pitches. Jace Peterson tied the game with a triple, and Andrew McCutchen singled Peterson home with the winning run.

The Brewers host the Padres again tonight. Corbin Burnes will start against Joe Musgrove.
