MTU – Hockey Falls in Polls; Blake, Stelzer Honored
Michigan Tech’s stay at the top of the national hockey polls didn’t last long. After losing twice to Minnesota State last weekend, the Huskies dropped to fifth in this week’s USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and sixth in the USCHO.com poll. MSU moves from 10th to seventh in both polls. Northern Michigan is ranked 19th in the USCHO.com poll.
Both of this week’s GLIAC North Basketball Player of the Week honors went to Michigan Tech players. Danielle Blake was honored after scoring 23 points in the Huskies’ victory over 10th-ranked Concordia-Saint Paul. Ben Stelzer was selected after scoring 28 in Tech’s two-point win over Minnesota-Duluth.
NMU Hosts UM-D
The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team hosts Minnesota-Duluth tonight.
NHL – Red Wings Edge Ottawa
Stephen Weiss scored twice, as the Detroit Red Wings got past the Ottawa Senators 4-3 last night. The goals were the first for Weiss in more than a year. This was only his second game this season, after recovering from a groin problem. He missed much of last season after undergoing surgery. The Wings host the Flyers tomorrow night. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NBA – Pistons Face Bucks
The Detroit Pistons play at Milwaukee tonight. Tip-off is at 8:00 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.
NFL – Monday Night
In NFL action last night…
– The Ravens defeated the Saints 34-27.
– The Bills overpowered the Jets 38-3.

MLB – Brewers Promote Guerrero
The Milwaukee Brewers have selected Mike Guerrero to be their new first base coach. Guerrero has been in the Milwaukee organization for many years, mostly in various minor-league roles. He was added to the major-league staff last season as an infield coach. He’ll replace Garth Iorg, who was fired at the end of last season.
