MLB

The Detroit Tigers lost 5-2 to the Minnesota Twins last night. The Twins got all the runs they needed when Jorge Polanco blasted a three-run homer off Casey Mize in the first inning. Mize recovered to retire 12 of the last 13 hitters he faced over four innings, in his final start of the season. The Bengals outhit Minnesota 10-7, but left 11 runners on base.

The Tigers visit the Twins again tonight. Tarik Skubal will start against Joe Ryan. Because of NFL football, coverage will begin at 7:20 on KBear 102.3.

The Milwaukee Brewers’ finally ended the Saint Louis Cardinals’ 17-game winning streak, with a 4-0 victory last night. Adrian Houser gave up three hits over five efficient innings. Daniel Vogelbach and Manny Piña homered.

The Brewers play in Saint Louis again this afternoon. Brett Anderson will pitch against J.A. Happ.

Milwaukee placed setup reliever Devin Williams on the injured list yesterday. Williams punched a wall Sunday after the brewers clinched the National League Central Division title. He broke a bone in his pitching hand, and will need to have a plate installed to help it heal. Team officials said yesterday that there’s an “outside chance” he could return if the Crew reaches the World Series.

Mitchell Stephens got one back for the Wings in the second period. Bobby Ryan’s goal late in the third forced overtime, and he also netted the game-winner in the shootout. Calvin Pickard got the win in net. Former Husky Jujhar Kaira scored for Chicago.
