MLB – Verlander Slammed as Tigers Fall
Justin Verlander gave up a run in the first inning, and six runs in the fifth, as the Detroit Tigers fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 10-5 yesterday. Verlander allowed seven hits, including two home runs. J.D. Martinez hit his 23rd home run for the Tigers, and Anthony Gose also hit one out.

The Tigers open a series at Seattle tonight. Alfredo Simon will pitch against Hisashi Iwakuma. Hear the first pitch at 10:10 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

Taylor Jungmann turned in the best start of his young career, allowing just one run over eight innings as the Milwaukee Brewers completed a sweep of the Cincinnati Reds with a 6-1 victory yesterday. Jungmann allowed just four hits. Gerardo Parra and Adam Lind homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers have won eight in a row, and host the Atlanta Braves tonight. Kyle Lohse will start against Matt Wisler.

Detroit first baseman Miguel Cabrera was voted into the starting lineup of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game next week. He won’t be able to play, of course, because he’s on the disabled list. Yoenis Cespedes and J.D. Martinez finished fifth and eighth in among American League outfielders. Pitchers, reserves and replacements for injured players will be named tonight.

The Detroit Pistons are set to make Reggie Jackson the highest-paid player in team history. Because of NBA rules, the five-year, 80-million dollar deal can’t be signed until at least Thursday.

Boomtown Dominates IFT
The Boomtown Saints continued their domination of the International Frisbee Tournament with a hard-fought victory over the Appleton Assassins yesterday. The Assassins took the first game of the best-of-three final series, but Boomtown rallied to take the final two games, and drink from the Nachazel Cup. It’s Boomtown’s sixth IFT title. Ryan Scott won the Healy Family Most Valuable Player Award. Twenty Times finished third, and RKO placed fourth. Kevin Bickler from the Blood N Guts team took home home the Jon Davis Spirit of Guts Award.

VanDusen Takes Liberty 5K
At the Baraga Liberty 5K Saturday, John VanDusen of L’Anse won the run with a time of 20:06.6. Wendel Delmote from Queen Creek, Arizona, finished 28 seconds later. Jessica Nankervis from Laurium was 42 seconds off the pace, good for third place overall, and first among women. Steele Jondreau of L’Anse won the kids’ one-mile race, and Allison Durant of Baraga was the top girl.

Copper Country Youth Football Camp Postponed
The Copper Country youth football camp that was scheduled to start this morning at 9:00 in Lake Linden has been rescheduled for Tuesday through Thursday because of today’s weather forecast.
