MLB
The Detroit Tigers lost to the Texas Rangers 7-5 last night. Matthew Boyd struggled through four innings, and left with the team trailing 7-0. The Tigers tried to mount a comeback. Four relievers combined to give up just one hit over the final five innings. Detroit scored three times in the bottom of the fourth, added one in the sixth on a Niko Goodrum home run, and plated one more in the ninth.

The Tigers host the Rangers again tonight. Jordan Zimmermann will pitch against Bartolo Colon. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire missed last night’s game. Gardenhire was still feeling the effects of dehydration and heat that forced him from Wednesday’s contest. He’s expected to be back in the dugout tonight.

Jhoulys Chacín turned in a strong start, as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Atlanta Braves 7-2 last evening. Chacín  allowed two runs in the first inning, then pitched shutout ball through the seventh. Milwaukee responded with a run in the first and three in the second. They tacked on three insurance runs in the eighth.

The Brewers entertain the Braves again tonight. Freddy Peralta will start against Mike Foltynewicz.

Milwaukee has brought shortstop Tyler Saladino back from the disabled list. He missed more than a month with a sprained ankle. They designated Eric Sogard for assignment.
