Boys Hoops Wins for Bolts, Dogs and Panthers – Tuesday Sports Wrap

High School
In high school boys basketball last night…
– Hancock got past Lake Linden-Hubbell 48-42. Joe Watson scored 17 for the Bulldogs.
– Calumet fell to Ewen-Trout Creek 67-55. Jake Witt had 30 points and 17 rebounds for the Panthers. Matt Ojala led the Copper Kings with 18 points.
– Dollar Bay-Tamarack City edged Bessemer 65-58. The Blue Bolts trailed most of the night, but rallied late. Clutch free throws by Jaden Janke and Ashton Janke sealed the win in the final minute.
– Jeffers lost to Wakefield-Marenisco 64-43.
– Chassell stopped Republic-Michigamme 58-41.
– Baraga lost a heartbreaker to Watersmeet, 52-51.
– L’Anse lost at Westwood 57-6. The Purple Hornets had one early layup, and four free throws.

On the boys schedule tonight, Houghton plays at Escanaba.

In girls basketball last night, Houghton lost at Gwinn 55-45.

On the girls schedule tonight…

– Lake Linden-Hubbell travels to Ontonagon.
– Jeffers tips off at Dollar Bay-Tamarack City.
– Chassell visits Baraga.
– L’Anse entertains Wakefield-Marenisco.
– Ewen-Trout Creek plays at Republic-Michigamme

In high school hockey tonight, Calumet entertains Marquette. The game was rescheduled from last Tuesday. Coverage will begin around 6:40 on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

The Houghton swim team competes at Ishpeming today.

MTU
Two Michigan Tech basketball players have been honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Lindsay Winter was named the North Division Women’s Player of the Week for the third time this season. Kyle Monroe was selected as the North Division Men’s Player of the Week for the second straight week.

NHL
The Detroit Red Wings fell to the Florida Panthers 2-1 in overtime last night. Henrik Zetterberg’s first period goal held up until Florida tied it midway through the third period. Mike Matheson’s goal two minutes into the extra period was the game-winner. Jimmy Howard stopped 27 shots in the loss. The Wings have lost nine of their last 10 games, and entertain the Boston Bruins tomorrow night. Coverage begins at 7:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA
The Detroit Pistons will try to snap their six-game losing streak when they host the Denver Nuggets tonight. Tip-off is at 7:00 on 99.3 The Lift.

NFL
