Blue Sky, Pat’s/Mosquito Earn Twilight Wins – Friday Sports Wrap

MLB – Tigers
The Detroit Tigers had yesterday off, and open a home set against the Cleveland Indians tonight. David Price will start against Danny Salazar. Hear the first pitch at 7:08 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3 WCCY.

The Tigers brought reliever Ian Kroll back up from Toledo yesterday. They’ll need to clear a roster space for him before tonight’s game. The Tigers will need to clear an additional roster space before tomorrow;s game, when Justin Verlander is expected to return from the disabled list.

Scooter Gennett’s single in the eighth inning drove in the winning run, as the Milwaukee Brewers shaded the Washington Nationals 6-5 last night.  Milwaukee fell behind early, as Matt Garza gave up all five Washington runs over six innings. The Brewers tied it in the seventh on a Gerardo Parra home run, setting the stage for Gennett’s big hit in his first game since being recalled from Triple-A.

The Brewers host the Nationals again tonight. Mike Fiers will start against Jordan Zimmermann.

Copper Country Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball play last night…
– At the Dollar Bay field, Blue Sky Health defeated Wolverine/Orbit 7-2. Dave Wesa went the distance for the win. Jason Koski had two hits, and drove in four runs.
– At the Stanton field, Pat’s Foods/Mosquito Inn scored three runs in the top of the seventh to earn a 5-3 come-from-behind win over the Stanton Wildcats. Rob Brooks earned the complete-game win.

Pistons Trade for Ilyasova
The Detroit Pistons have acquired power forward Ersan İlyasova from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for forwards Caron Butler and Shawne Williams. Ilyasova averaged 10 points and six rebounds per game over his seven years with the Bucks.

Lions Sign Tomlinson
The Detroit Lions signed first-round draft pick Laken Tomlinson to a four-year deal yesterday. Tomlinson has been taking part in team activities. All of Detroit’s draftees are now under contract.

GSAC Adds Two Schools
GSAC LogoTwo more colleges have joined Finlandia University in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Mount Mary University Blue Angels become the second team from our region, and the U-C Santa Cruz Banana Slugs become the first team from the west coast. The Finlandia women’s basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball teams compete in the GSAC.

Lake Trout Festival Tomorrow
Lake Trout FestivalThe Baraga County Lake Trout Festival will be held tomorrow at L’Anse Waterfront Park. A meeting for those signed up for the Keweenaw Bay Classic fishing tournament will be held tonight at 6:00 at the L’Anse American Legion hall. At least one member of each team must attend. Fishing begins tomorrow morning at 5:00. The Pequaming Run, half-marathon, and family 5K will be held tomorrow, along with the Tour da L’Anse bicycle race.
