Brewers Fall to Cubs – Friday Sports Wrap

The Milwaukee Brewers fell behind early, and lost 4-2 to the Chicago Cubs last night. Chicago starter Yu Darvish carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Justin Smoak broke it up with a solo home run.

The Brewers face the Cubs in Chicago again tonight. Brandon Woodruff will start against Tyler Chatwood.

Two pitchers who struggled in the Crew’s 12-2 loss to the Minnesota Twins Wednesday night have been replaced. Eric Lauer has been sent to Appleton. Justin Grimm has been placed on the injured list because of a blister. Pitchers Drew Rasmussen and Angel Perdomo have been called up to make their major league debuts.

The Detroit Tigers return to action this evening, at home against the Cleveland Indians. Ivan Nova will start against Aaron Civale. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

In opening-round Stanley Cup playoff action yesterday…
• The Blue Jackets defeated the Lightning 3-1. That series is tied 1-1.
• The Hurricanes got past the Bruins 3-2, to tie that series 1-1.
• The Golden Knights shaded the Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime. Las Vegas is up 2-0 in that series.
• The Stars outscored the Flames 5-4. That series is tied 1-1.

On today’s schedule…
• The Canadiens face the Flyers. Philadelphia leads that series 1-0. Montreal will be without coach Claude Julien, who was hospitalized with chest pains Wednesday evening, and is undergoing tests.
• The Islanders take on the Capitals. New York is up 1-0 in that set.
• The Coyotes play the Avalanche. Colorado leads that series 1-0.
• The Canucks meet the Blues. Vancouver won game one of that set.

College

With more and more college conferences shutting down their programs because of COVID-19 concerns, the NCAA yesterday canceled all of its fall Division I championships. D-II and D-II championships had already been called off.
