MLB

The Tigers fell 6-2 to the Phillies yesterday. Matt Vierling scored both Detroit runs, on a solo homer in the first inning, and an Andy Ibáñez RBI single in the ninth. Keider Montero was brought up from Toledo to bolster the pitching staff on a bullpen day. He took over in the fourth inning, pitched into the eighth, and gave up five runs.

The Tigers visit the Angels tonight. Jack Flaherty will start against Davis Daniel. Coverage will begin at 9:15 on 99.3 The Lift.

To make room for Montero on the roster, Easton Lucas was sent down to Toledo. Montero is also likely headed back, with Alex Faedo ready to return from the injured list.

The Brewers shaded the Rangers 6-5 in 10 innings yesterday. Jake Bauers hit a grand slam, and Jackson Chourio legged out an inside-the-park home run. Andruw Monasterio singled home Willy Adames with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Newly-obtained starter Dallas Keuchel gave up five runs on eight hits over four innings.

The Brewers have today off, and host the Cubs tomorrow.

As Keuchel was added to the roster, pitcher Joel Kuhnel was designated for assignment. Catcher Gary Sánchez was added to the injured list with a left calf strain. Former Tiger Eric Haase was called up from Nashville to fill in.

NBA

In the first round of the NBA draft last evening, the Pistons used the fifth pick to select G-League forward Ron Holland II. Holland is 18 years old, and was considered the top player in the high school class of 2023. He averaged 20 points per game for the Ignite last season, but most analysts projected him as a low first-round pick. The Hawks used the first pick to take French forward Zaccharie Risacher. Another Frenchman, Alex Sarr, went second to the Wizards.

Round two will take place tonight. The Pistons have the 23rd selection.

NHL

The Red Wings created some salary cap space yesterday by sending defenseman Jake Walman to the Sharks, in exchange for future consideration. Detroit also traded forward prospect Jesse Kiiskinen to the Predators, in exchange for defense prospect Andrew Gibson. The Wings also get an additional second-round pick in this year’s draft, which begins tomorrow night.
