Brewers Win Seventh Straight – Wednesday Sports Wrap

MLB
The Detroit Tigers’ game at Pittsburgh last night was rained out. The contest will be made up as part of a standard doubleheader tonight. Pregame coverage will begin at 3:40 on 99.3 The Lift. Jordan Zimmermann will face Chad Kuhl in the opener, and Matthew Boyd will pitch against Jameson Taillon in the nightcap.

It was the seventh rainout for the Tigers this season.

The Milwaukee Brewers scored four runs in the third inning, and went on to a 5-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals last night. Travis Shaw hit a three-run homer, and Lorenzo Cain slugged a solo shot. Zach Davies gave up two runs over six innings to earn the win.

The Brewers have won seven straight, and wrap up that quick interleague set at Kansas City tonight. Jhoulys Chacin will pitch against Jason Hammel.

Milwaukee first baseman Eric Thames hurt his thumb while diving for a ball in last night’s game. He’ll undergo an MRI today.

Finlandia
Former Houghton High School basketball standout Harlee Froberg will play for the Finlandia Lions next season. Froberg averaged 12 points and six rebounds per game for the Gremlins last season.

The Finlandia women’s soccer team has received a commitment from Taylor Paul, who was a three-time team Most Valuable Player at Iron Mountain High School.

Two Finlandia softball players have been honored by the American Collegiate Athletic Association. Denia Bent was named to the All-Academic First Team, and Serena Jaime was an honor roll recipient.

NHL
The final opening-round NHL playoff series will be decided tonight, when Toronto skates at Boston. That series is tied 3-3.

NBA
In the NBA playoffs last night…
– Philadelphia moved into the second round with a 104-91 victory over Miami. The 76ers won that series 4-1.
– Golden State advanced with a 99-91 win over San Antonio. The Warriors took that set 4-1.
– Boston got past Milwaukee 92-87. The Celtics lead that series 3-2.

Tonight…
– Washington plays at Toronto. That series is tied 2-2.
– Indiana tips off at Cleveland. That set is tied 2-2.
– Utah visits Oklahoma City. The Jazz lead that series 3-1.
– Minnesota plays at Houston. The Rockets are up 3-1 in that set.

The Finlandia University baseball team will play a doubleheader at Northland College tomorrow. Pregame coverage will begin around 10:40 on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.
